Former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista believes Matheus Cunha would be a good signing for Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United need to address a number of areas in the team this summer when the transfer window opens, however, it won’t be easy due to the club’s financial situation.
One way to ease the financial problems at United would be to qualify for the Champions League. United can only achieve that by winning the Europa League after reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
Ruben Amorim became United head coach in November and quickly realised that the squad was lacking in several departments. For instance, the lack of goals scored stems from not having a goalscorer and matters were made worse by the team becoming reliant on unproven strikers.
This has led to United being linked with multiple transfer targets ahead of the summer transfer window, including Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap.
French reports claim United have held positive talks for Matheus Cunha as Ineos eye the Wolves forward as a potential option to play in one of the No.10 roles under Amorim next season.

Matheus Cunha tipped to become a star at Manchester United
Over the weekend, Matheus Cunha was the subject of Manchester United speculation and it seems like talks have advanced since Wolves beat the Red Devils 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Reports suggest Wolves will accept instalments for Cunha’s £62.5 million fee, which could make a deal more manageable for United.
United fans are divided on the Cunha deal, although the Brazilian forward isn’t the only option the club are considering moving for at the end of the season.
Former Brazil international Julio Baptista believes the Wolves forward is ready for a big move, despite struggling during a previous spell at Atletico Madrid.
“Matheus Cunha is an incredible player,” Baptista told Foot Italia.
“Things didn’t work out at Atletico Madrid, but sometimes you need to go about things in a different way, take a different path.
“Many club are looking at him right now, so he just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s doing incredible work, having a great season. If he moves to a big club now, he will show his full potential.”
Baptista added that he believes Cunha has what it takes to become the main man at United. That role is currently filled by club captain Bruno Fernandes, who deserves to be surrounded by better players than is currently the case at Old Trafford.
The former Arsenal loanee went on to claim that Cunha has what it takes to deal with the pressure of playing for one of the world’s biggest football clubs.
“I love his personality,” Baptista said about Cunha. “Some players have been weighed down by the weight of the Manchester United shirt. I don’t think Cunha is one of those players.
“I think he would love to have the responsibility of being the main man at a club like Manchester United.”
Matheus Cunha record vs Manchester United
Prior to Wolves’ 1-0 win at Old Trafford, Amorim was full of praise for Cunha, singling him out as one of Vitor Pereira’s key players.
Cunha caused problems for United during his 89-minute long performance on Sunday.
The Brazilian managed one shot on target, three successful dribbles and was fouled on four separate occasions.
| Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals | Assists |
| 5 | 2 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
It was Cunha’s fifth Premier League meeting against the Red Devils, with both wins coming this season as Wolves recorded a rare league double.
