Mason Greenwood scored an outstanding goal to open the scoring for Manchester United against Young Boys on Wednesday night.
While the floodgates did not open as United fans may have hoped after the eighth minute strike, Greenwood’s goal was worth the entrance fee alone for supporters in attendance.
The technique Greenwood showed to score the volley was outrageous. Luke Shaw’s cross appeared to be going behind the youngster, only for him to re-angle his body and hook the ball into the corner of the net.
It was a spectacular goal from a spectacular player, who stepped up and showed United’s fellow youngsters how it was done.

Greenwood’s goal tally
Greenwood’s goal was his 34th for the club. This matches Carlos Tevez’s overall goal tally in a Red Devils shirt.
He has now moved ahead of Denis Irwin, and is just one behind current teammate Jesse Lingard.
The goal was Greenwood’s fifth of the season. This moves him level with Bruno Fernandes in 2021/22 and only Cristiano Ronaldo has more with 12.
Luke Shaw provided the assist for Greenwood’s strike, his third of the season. Only Pogba and Fernandes have more.
The best is yet to come
It’s easy to forget Greenwood is just 20-years-old. He has an incredible career ahead of him and he is making great strides.
The youngster now has a goal and assist in two games under Rangnick, and will be hoping he is rewarded with a start at the weekend.
The best is yet to come for Greenwood, and the goals will continue as his career progresses. Before we know it, he will be hitting 40 goal, 50 goal milestones, and then chasing down 100.
The competition for places will challenge Greenwood to raise his game and he has responded well after a fortnight out of the side.
Rio Ferdinand said it best after the game on BT Sport when he said, ‘The ceiling for this kid is so high. What he can be if he dedicates himself to the game as he is at the moment, England are missing out.”
