Mason Greenwood humbled in 4-0 La Liga battering for Getafe

Mason Greenwood has been enjoying life away from Manchester United.

The English winger chose to move to Getafe on loan in the summer, where he’s enjoyed a lot of success.

From his wondergoal against Almeria, to his stellar performance against Sevilla in La Liga – he’s proving he can do the business in Spain’s top flight.

But he didn’t exactly have the best of runouts on Saturday – where his side suffered a 4-0 battering.

Mason Greenwood humbled by Barcelona

Greenwood was on the end of a 4-0 defeat as Getafe took on Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Goals from Raphinha, Joao Felix, Frenkie de Jong and Fermin Gomez made sure that Greenwood did not enjoy his first experience at Barcelona’s stadium.

The former Manchester United academy star made little impact on the fixture – which reflected in some rather mediocre stats on the day.

The poor performance meant Greenwood was subbed off early by his new manager. Not one of his better days.

Could Mason Greenwood be on the other side next season?

Next season, it could be Greenwood on the other side of the result – with Barcelona reportedly interested in the forward, per Marca.

Getafe president Angel Torres insists Greenwood is ‘crazy’ about staying in La Liga while indicating that Barcelona may be a fitting destination for the Manchester United and Premier League loanee.

The only issue probably for Barcelona – the cost. Manchester United know what a prized asset they have in Greenwood, so they certainly won’t let him go for pennies.

HITC Football transfer insider Graeme Bailey told United In Focus that Ratcliffe’s midweek comments may have been made in an attempt to raise Greenwood’s value, in an attempt to get a maximum value out of a potentially £35 million-plus asset.

This would be pure profit for United, with Greenwood as an academy product. This would drastically help with FFP. Let’s see what materialises in the summer.
