Anthony Martial has faced the media for the first time since his loan move from Manchester United to Sevilla was confirmed.
Sevilla’s website has uploaded the most notable comments, including the Frenchman speaking about his relationship with the Spanish club’s director of football Monchi.
Martial said that Monchi has tried to sign him before.
Monchi has been at Sevilla since 2000, aside from a short break between 2017 and 2019 when he was with Roma. It is not clear who Monchi tried to sign Martial for, but the likelihood it was for Sevilla in a previous transfer window – and he has eventually got his man.

“I’ve already known Monchi for a while because he’s wanted me before. When he called, we understood that we wanted to work together, and so I could help him towards the aim which the team has,” said Martial.
“I already know [Lucas] Ocampos and [Jules] Koundé very well and I hope to be welcomed by everyone. I’m joining a big club here in Spain and what’s important is helping them towards the aims that we all have at the end of the season.
“I’ve spoken with the coach, but the most important thing for me is playing, it doesn’t matter where, so I can do my best and do what the manager wants from me. This is a good team, they play football. I want to bring my experience here and help the team to keep winning.
“Winning a seventh Europa League is a big aim. The final is here so we’ll do everything possible to win the cup. My aim is to play, help the team and that means enjoying myself on the pitch, and scoring and assisting. That’s the aim for me these next few months.”

United reportedly offered Monchi a job in 2016, but he turned it down. Coming to Old Trafford that stage would have seen him and Martial under the same roof of course.
He is known as one of the best operators around, and offers Sevilla a clear identity as well as expertise in the transfer market.
Sevilla have been patient and eventually engineered a deal for Martial which should suit all parties if he can rediscover his scoring touch.
Martial’s enthusiasm for his new challenge is clear and many United fans will be keeping an eye on his fortunes with interest as he seeks to reinvigorate his career.
