Manchester United fans had a lot to say about Marcus Rashford’s sensational impact against Newcastle on his Champions League debut for Barcelona on Thursday evening.
Hansi Flick’s men travelled to England and Barcelona kicked off their 2025-26 Champions League season at St James’ Park against Premier League side Newcastle.
The 60-year-old German head coach made the big decision to start summer signing Marcus Rashford out on the left side of the Barcelona attack on Thursday.
Rashford, who arrived at the Camp Nou in the summer as part of a season-long loan, made his presence felt with his stunning display for Barcelona on the night.
The 27-year-old Manchester United loanee proved to be the difference-maker in the 58th minute after he broke the deadlock against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Following on from his second-half opener, Marcus Rashford rewarded Hansi Flick’s faith in him by getting his name on the scoresheet again to complete his brace.
Manchester United fans took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and were left in awe at the stunning second-half cameo from the former Aston Villa forward.
A Red Devils supporter said: “Rashford leaving United and scoring immediately for Barca is basically my villain origin story.”
While a second United fan added: “I’m always gonna root for Rashford. Let him cook.”
“We let Rashford [leave] for no reason, BTW,” another posted.
Someone else commented: “There’s a scary amount of Manchester United fans [who] wholeheartedly believed that Rashford wasn’t good enough to play for the club. LMFAO.”
Another argued: “Can never hate on Rashford, even if he scores a hat-trick against United and throws his shirt in the sky; deserves a league title with Barca (at least!).”
And a sixth tweeted: “You can’t be a United fan and not happy for Marcus Rashford. C’mon, guys.”
“Rashford has scored two goals for Barcelona. We’ve a problem [at] Manchester United,” an X user suggested.
Somebody else claimed: “Chuffed for Rashford, both great finishes, although there’s still a lot to be said about his application at United towards the end; it was as much on him as it was [under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim]. [The] same can be said for other players as well…”

Fabian Schar was unable to close down Rashford for Barcelona’s opener and the United loanee powered in a header after he turned in Jules Kounde’s cross.
Rashford then showed a moment of pure magic to complete his brace, with the United player producing a spine-tingling screamer in the Champions League.
The former Aston Villa star hit his strike from 20 yards out and Rashford saw his superb effort land in the top corner after hitting the crossbar on the way in.
Rashford was able to skip around Sandro Tonali for his second of the night, with the England star ensuring that Barcelona collected all three points on Thursday evening.
Anthony Gordon scored in the 90th minute for Newcastle, but the Magpies were unable to find the all-important equaliser before the full-time whistle.
