Marcus Rashford can’t seem to catch a break.

The Manchester United star has had to deal with negative story after negative story over the past year, with his struggling form and private life documented by the press.

Marcus Rashford had been slowly getting back amongst the goals this season, but questions remain after he was dropped for the Manchester derby – along with Alejandro Garnacho.

With Rashford linked with moves away from Old Trafford, the Manchester United academy graduate appears to be walking on thin ice. It doesn’t help that there has been a breakdown in his relationship with fans. That is evident not only on social media but at games, too.

Most United fans have longed for Rashford to return to his previous standards. He’d walk into the team under Ruben Amorim if only he could replicate his form from two seasons ago when he scored 30 goals across all competitions.

Reports strongly suggest that United are open to selling Rashford – in January or beyond, so long as the offer meets their valuation.

The under-fire star will have few options if he does decide to leave Old Trafford due to his high salary demands. Rashford has been linked with PSG and the Saudi Pro League but no offers have been made.

However, the 27-year-old may not want to leave United just yet if follow up reports are to be believed.

According to talkSPORT, Rashford is reluctant to leave United because he is hopeful of getting a call-up to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

It is surprising that Rashford is focused on World Cup in 2026 at a time when he is nowhere near being selected for the England squad.

That is unless Thomas Tuchel has already made it clear privately that the struggling forward will be part of his plans.

Marcus Rashford must prove himself if he wants United stay

Rashford’s future is in his own hands. There wouldn’t be questions over his future if he was performing at the level we, as fans, know he can.

The only way to silence critics as a forward is to score goals. Rashford is not the only United forward who has failed to achieve that consistently.

After being left out of the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, Rashford will hope to get a chance to start against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, with two goals in as many appearances in that competition this season.

Rashford should have fire in his belly after missing the derby win.
