Manchester United’s ex-players are proving why the club was right in letting them leave, as Marcus Rashford has now joined Rasmus Hojlund in throwing an unwarranted dig at the club.

A recent dig at Man Utd came from the most unexpected source, as Rasmus Hojlund celebrated a cup win with Napoli by saying, “What a great decision looks like.”

He then liked a comment by another user on Instagram that said, “Manchester who?”, clearly reveling in the success that he’s seen since leaving Old Trafford at the cost of United.

Marcus Rashford can now be added to that list, as the player, who is still contracted to United, by the way, has basically accused the club of not being ambitious enough for his development.

Marcus Rashford’s indirect dig at Barcelona

Rashford shares a complicated relationship with Man Utd fans, because even though he hasn’t kicked up a public fuss, there’s always an undercurrent of passive-aggressive behaviour.

It comes out in the form of sly digs at the club he has played for previously, which, in his case, is not very difficult to decipher since he’s only played for United and for Villa on a six-month loan.

The latest one is arguably the most egregious, since it leaves no room for speculation, since he said everything but naming the club outright.

What do you think is Marcus Rashford’s legacy at Man Utd?

He said (via Diario Sport): “Barcelona is a fantastic club, a huge, huge club that is known for winning, and this type of, I want to say pressure, but it’s not a bad type of pressure, it’s a pressure I want to have when playing football.

If I’m at a club that doesn’t demand these things, then it’s more difficult for me to be motivated. It’s a fantastic environment for me to continue my football journey. I try to do my best and try to push the team to win, and in the summer, we will see what happens.”

The part of the quotes in bold doesn’t need any additional context because they speak for themselves. Knowing Rashford, it’s not a coincidence that this part just slipped in.

Rashford’s latest dig at Man Utd is extremely weak

Rashford talks about how difficult it is for him to be motivated when the demands aren’t high, which is ironic considering United are arguably the most demanding club in the world.

If anything, Rashford seemed to shrink when the weight was on his shoulders, which is in stark contrast to the point he’s trying to make in the quotes above.

The reality is that he was no longer motivated to play for United, regardless of the club’s ambition and demands, and that was clear as day.

If he were driven by high demands, ambition, and standards, then he would have taken Amorim’s challenge of not training well personally and made himself undeniable.

Instead, that was the last time he played for the club before he moved to Aston Villa.

That’s not something he will ever admit, and that’s a part of the reason why he failed at United, and why he shares a complicated relationship with Man Utd fans.
