Marcus Rashford often had his attitude and commitment questioned during his time as a Manchester United player.

Despite graduating from Carrington and becoming a mainstay in the Manchester United side, Marcus Rashford’s time at Old Trafford wasn’t always rosy.

Rashford’s attitude was criticised in training under several managers and last season, Ruben Amorim dropped Rashford from the Manchester derby and cited off-pitch issues as the reason.

That marked the beginning of the end for Rashford’s United career – he was subsequently frozen out of the side by Amorim before leaving for Aston Villa and then Barcelona this summer.

Rashford has impressed at Barcelona early into his loan spell, but it seems he still hasn’t learned from his disciplinary mistakes.

Marcus Rashford dropped by Barcelona for being late

Just days after Rashford starred against Newcastle United in the Champions League, he was left out of their starting line-up to face Getafe on Sunday evening.

As reported by The Athletic, Rashford was left out because he arrived late to training in the morning.

He did eventually come on as a substitute at half-time and registered one assist as Barcelona comfortably won 3-0.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick made it clear to Rashford that lateness would not be accepted and he was handed a sanction which has previously been given to teammates Jules Kounde, Inaki Pena and Raphinha.

Marcus Rashford faced three disciplinary issues at Man United

Amorim took up issue with Rashford’s effort levels in training, and even suggested he would rather field his goalkeeping coach than a player who is not “100% committed”.

Before that, Rashford also faced similar issues under Erik ten Hag’s reign.

In 2024, Rashford was absent from United’s 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup having been pictured partying in Belfast earlier in the week.

Prior to that, Rashford was dropped against Wolves in 2023 after turning up late to a meeting.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Rashford defended his actions, saying: “Listen, I’m not a perfect person. When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first one to put my hand up and say that I need to do better. But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I have to speak up.

“It’s like somebody questioning my entire identity, and everything I stand for as a man. I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a kid so I could wear this badge.”

However, while Rashford admitted to his mistakes, it seems he has still not entirely learned his lesson after facing similar punishment in Catalonia.
