Manchester United are bracing for the arrival of Ruben Amorim after he beat Braga in his final game as Sporting boss on Sunday night.

Manchester United won in the final game of the Ruud van Nistelrooy era, beating Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho were on the scoresheet before United fans will have turned the attention towards Sporting.

United have already confirmed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach, luring him away from Sporting.

United sacked Erik ten Hag in October and moved quickly to land Amorim as his replacement.

The terms of the deal meant that Amorim would stay and manage Sporting until the international break, leaving United with something of a wait.

Manuel Ugarte message to Carlos Fernandes

Amorim saw his side come from 2-0 down to beat Braga 4-2, ending his time in charge on a real high.

Sporting players surrounded Amorim after scoring the fourth goal as they showed a real outpouring of emotion for their boss.

Amorim will now head for Old Trafford but he won’t be alone.

Sporting coaches Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido are set to follow Amorim to United.

Fernandes has now taken to Instagram to share an emotional message to Sporting fans after coaching in his final game for the club.

“The adventure that changed my life… so many moments that I will cherish forever. There is no other feeling than eternal gratitude towards those who helped us create something so special: players for whom there are no words, colleagues who became friends and everyone who always supported us. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!” said Fernandes.

Sporting players shared their support for Fernandes and there was even a message from United midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Ugarte played under Amorim and Fernandes at Sporting and shared a simple green heart to Fernandes, showing that Sporting is still right in his heart.

Ugarte will now reunite with Amorim and Fernandes at Old Trafford, no doubt hoping to enjoy a similarly fruitful time together in Manchester.

Who is Carlos Fernandes?

Fernandes started his coaching journey in the youth ranks at Benfica, emerging during Amorim’s time as a player there.

Amorim landed Fernandes as his assistant at Casa Pia before then taking him to Braga as well.

Amorim’s rapid rise saw Fernandes become Sporting assistant less than two years after finishing up in his youth coaching role at Lisbon rivals Benfica.

Fernandes is only 29 but has been Amorim’s assistant for more than 200 games now, with the pair striking up a great connection.

Ugarte clearly enjoyed working under Fernandes and we can only hope that the rest of the United squad end up feeling similarly.
