Manchester United are set to sign Diego Leon but another left wing back will surely be a priority for Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United have moved to a 3-4-3 system under Ruben Amorim and results have been a little up and down.
Recent displays against Liverpool and Arsenal have restored some hope in the United fanbase after a string of poor home results.
Amorim is hoping to keep the good feeling going against Southampton on Thursday night as he continues to learn about his United squad.
Amorim would no doubt love some signings this month but United’s £100million summer net spend means January deals are difficult.
United may need to wait until the summer for new faces and one positions stands out as an area for improvement.

Liverpool move in for Manchester United target
Another left wing back must be a priority for United in 2025 despite Diego Leon’s imminent deal.
Diogo Dalot has been up and down; he was superb at Liverpool but picked up a silly red card at Arsenal.
Dalot is also a natural right-footer and United should be looking for a left-footer to take that role for the foreseeable future.
Speculation in November suggested that Manchester United want Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez as a left wing back addition.
Liverpool joined the race for Kerkez and were believed to have discussed a deal for the Hungarian ace.
iNews now report that Liverpool are expected to win the race for Kerkez and leave United in the dust.
It’s stated that United have spoken to Kerkez’s representatives but he is now favouring a move to Anfield.
Liverpool’s transfer chief Richard Hughes brought Kerkez to Bournemouth whilst the former AZ Alkmaar ace will be familiar to Liverpool’s ex-Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.
United may hope to change Kerkez’s mind but Liverpool are seemingly in pole position to sign him – and leave United looking elsewhere.
Milos Kerkez latest may spark Manchester United pivot
United would no doubt be interested in Kerkez given his huge impact in a Bournemouth shirt.
Pundit Jamie Carragher has called Kerkez a ‘revelation’ at Bournemouth, praising him as ‘really aggressive’ and ‘superb’.
“He’s been a revelation at Bournemouth,” said Carragher whilst speaking on Sky Sports.
“He’s aggressive, he’s got pace. Even when you look at him he looks like a full-back – really aggressive after wingers on that side, he’s just bombing up and down that left side.
“He’s been superb since he’s come into the Premier League with Bournemouth and he’s certainly one to watch in the future whether he stays or moves on because he’s made that much of an impact,” he added.
United will have other targets in mind though and Liverpool moving to the front of the queue for Kerkez may make United’s top priority clear.
United want to sign Nuno Mendes and reunite him with his former Sporting boss Amorim.
Talks have been held for Mendes and whilst United will need to pay up, he is the obvious top target with Kerkez seemingly off the table.
Not only does Amorim know Mendes well, but the Portugal international is one of the top young left backs in the game.
Mendes has just 18 months left on his contract at PSG and may even be cheaper than Kerkez in terms of the fee.
The wages may be a large commitment but Mendes adds up as United’s top priority at the left wing back spot in 2025.
