Manchester United's six most important potential signings for summer

Getting Bruno Fernandes in during January was pretty much a best case scenario for Manchester United.

The Portuguese star is a big addition to United, but he is just part of the puzzle.

More signings are needed in the summer and it’s never too early to look at the club’s options.

There are six standout candidates for United already, and any three of these would transform the team.

Jack Grealish

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has silenced his critics with a series of outstanding performances this season. At Old Trafford against United he was excellent.

Grealish has emerged as a leader for Villa and has scored nine goals and provided five assists.

He influences games and has the creativity you would want from a central midfielder. United’s task will be made easier if Villa get relegated.

Boubakary Soumare

Soumare is a long term replacement for Nemanja Matic and this deal makes a lot of sense.

The Lille star is rated as one of the best defensive midfielders in France, and as The Mail has reported, he is attracting attention from clubs across Europe including United.

He is under contract until 2022, and this summer may be ideal for Lille to cash in. As he would help unleash United’s attacking signings, he could be the most important addition the Red Devils make.

Hakim Ziyech

Ajax star Hakim Ziyech is one of the most prolific players in Europe. This season he has scored eight goals and provided 16 assists already.

With United struggling to break down defences, Ziyech would be a terrific addition.

He can play as a winger, and a number 10, which would give United versatility in attack and quality cover for Fernandes.

Jadon Sancho

Sancho should be United’s top target as a winger. At Dortmund he has 13 goals and 14 assists already.

At just 19, Sancho is regarded as Europe’s top prospect and like Ziyech, he has the creativity United lack.

This will be a tricky deal, as there will be competition, and it may depend on Champions League football with Chelsea also keen.

Dortmund are not so resistant to a sale, with director Michel Zorc admitting to Sport Bild he did not know if Sancho will stay beyond the summer. He will cost big though.

Timo Werner

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is having a truly prolific season. 20 goals in 20 games speaks for itself.

Like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, Werner can also play wide as well as an orthodox striker, but he has the finishing ability and ruthlessness of Thomas Muller.

He’s what United are looking for, but it is unlikely he will leave without Champions League football on offer, and there will be strong competition from Bayern Munich.

Maxi Gomez

Valencia striker Maxi Gomez has emerged as a striker target for United, report Cadena Ser.

The Spaniard is an orthodox number nine, and would give United an option currently lacking – at least prior to Odion Ighalo’s temporary arrival.

Gomez, 23, has nine goals so far this season and could become a fan favourite at Old Trafford with his battling style of play.

After just one season at Valencia though, the Spanish side may not want to sell so soon.
