Manchester United target Victor Osimhen is ‘strongest striker after Haaland’, says teammate

Manchester United are weighing up potential striker options ahead of this coming summer.

Harry Kane underlined his credentials over the international break by breaking Wayne Rooney‘s record to become England’s leading scorer.

Meanwhile Rasmus Hojlund and Evan Ferguson are emerging as younger and cheaper options, Forbes report.

The perfect middle ground is widely regarded as Napoli’s freescoring striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen ‘force of nature’

Victor Osimhen is Serie A’s top goalscorer with 25 goals in all competitions this season. ESPN has reported he is on Manchester United’s shortlist.

The trouble is Osimhen will be very expensive, but paying big for the Nigerian striker could be worth it.

Napoli striker Andrea Petagna, currently on loan at Serie A side Monza, has been talking up his clubmate.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, he says he regards Osimhen is the second best striker in the world.

He said: “Osimhen. He is a force of nature, very fast, he is hungry and with the legs he has he reaches everywhere.

“After Haaland, he is the strongest striker around.”

Considering the quality of other strikers around the world including Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, these words are high praise.

Haaland has scored a staggering 42 goals this season in all competitions. While Manchester United shut him out at Old Trafford, there is still a need to add an elite centre forward of our own.

Marcus Rashford has netted 27 goals but prefers to play from the left. Former United loanee Odion Ighalo spoke earlier this month about the devastating combination he believes Rashford and Osimhen could share.

Gianluca di Marzio told Soccernews in January: “Manchester United certainly want to sign him, but there are other clubs who are planning the same.”

Osimhen could add to his reputation by firing Napoli towards the Champions League trophy. They face AC Milan in the quarter-finals.

Manchester United do have various options in attack this summer, and Osimhen could be the most expensive. He could also be the very best one.
