Manchester United star now taking on brotherly role to Chido Obi, he has perfect experience to offer

Manchester United fans were given a brief glimpse of Chido Obi on Sunday afternoon – and there should be much more to come.

Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur was another showcase of just why Ruben Amorim’s side are struggling.

James Maddison’s winning goal was a soft one for United to concede, Gary Neville slammed United’s midfield setup and the attack was pretty toothless.

There were problems all over the pitch for United and the situation wasn’t helped by a torrid injury situation.

Amad is out for the season, Lisandro Martinez has undergone surgery and the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have suffered injury problems.

That resulted in a host of young players making the United bench, but we only saw one in action against Tottenham.

Manchester United ace helping Chido Obi

United’s bench was almost entirely full of teenagers and Amorim decided to make just one change – and that came in injury time.

Amorim brought Chido Obi on with the young striker making waves in the United youth ranks.

Fans were disappointed that the cameo amounted to just three minutes but Amorim did praise Obi for his attacking instincts in the box.

Obi joined United from Arsenal over the summer and there is huge hype around the Danish teenager.

This first appearance may well lead to more senior action this season and Obi has found a United first-team ace to lean on.

The Daily Mail report that striker Joshua Zirkzee has taken on the role of being an ‘older brother’ figure to Obi.

We saw Zirkzee call Obi ‘lil bro’ after his appearance against Tottenham, so there certainly seems to be some weight behind this.

Patrick Dorgu – another Danish talent – is helping Obi settle in the dressing room but Zirkzee’s role will be vital.

Zirkzee is only 23 himself and hasn’t been at United all that much longer than Obi has given his summer arrival.

Yet the Dutchman not only understands the pressure of being a striker, but also being a young talent with high expectations at a huge club.

Joshua Zirkzee has valuable experience for Chido Obi

Look at Zirkzee’s career trajectory and you will see that he joined one of the European giants at the age of just 16.

Zirkzee quit Feyenoord for Bayern Munich as a teenager and found himself in the spotlight with huge expectations around him.

Zirkzee’s first-team debut for Bayern came at just 18 and four goals in his first nine Bundesliga game only served to build hype.

Sustained success never really arrived at Bayern though and Zirkzee struggled on loan at Parma too before thriving with Anderlecht and Bologna.

Zirkzee has been in the same place as Obi; a talented young striker looking to break through at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Zirkzee suffered ups and downs along the way and that experience could be valuable for Obi as he makes his own way at Old Trafford.
