Joe Hugill doubles his G/A tally from last season’s loan spell in as little as 90 minutes

Manchester United are still in need of a centre-forward.

Despite Rasmus Hojund finally hitting some form, the Danish striker is still not mature enough to be leading the line week in and week out.

Anthony Martial is currently his very unreliable understudy, who is either constantly injured or cannot manage more than a few minutes on the pitch.

Manchester United will probably be in the market for a striker in the summer… or will they?

Joe Hugill’s fantastic start for Burton Albion

Joe Hugill clinched a loan move to League One strugglers Burton Albion in January.

He made an instant impact, he was brought on in the 62nd minute on his debut with his team trailing 2-1 and managed to grab an equaliser.

Now on his first start over the weekend, he turned provider, grabbing an assist for his new side. This was in a vital 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, which saw Albion leap ahead of them in the table into 15th.

Hugill managed 62 minutes on the pitch and came off to great appreciation from his new home supporters.

This is the young forward’s first taste of the Football League, having spent time with Altrincham in the National League last season.

He played 11 times for the Robins, managing just one goal and 0 assists. This means that in just 90 minutes of League One football in the two games combined over just five days, he’s already doubled his G/A tally from last season.

Alex Bruce on Joe Hugill

Hugill has now got MUTV pundits talking after his fast-paced start to life at Albion.

Alex Bruce last week told MUTV’s The Debate following Hugill’s debut goal against Derby County: “I saw the goal, it was a great goal. He had a lot of time to think about what he was going to do with it as well.

“One on one, he’s burst through from the halfway line, he’s got to the ‘keeper and slotted it away. It was a really good goal he showed good pace to get away from the defender and a great start for him, exactly what you would want from young players going away on loan. Let’s hope it’s the start of him having a good spell.”

With Manchester United looking for a top-class striker, could Hugill be the answer if his loan is a success? He’s certainly made a good start.
