Manchester United academy forward Joe Hugill looks set for a loan move away from Old Trafford, according to reports.
Joe Hugill impressed for Manchester United during the preseason tour of America in the off-season with the young forward netting against Leeds United.
Erik ten Hag was also impressed with Hugill’s performance and goal after the game against the Yorkshire outfit when he said: “They’re coming in and it’s a big moment when you are coming up in the squad, in the first team. You deserve game time because over long years you work for it.”
Despite this, it now looks like Hugill, even after just signing a new deal with the Red Devils, will be going out on loan to EFL League One.

Hugill loan details
According to a report from Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon, the English forward will be heading to League One side Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season.
Some sides were interested in Hugill who were in the upper echelons of EFL football but the Red Devils wanted the striker to get experience lower down the footballing pyramid as it is more likely he will start regularly for the Brewers as opposed to moving to a side in the Championship.
Hugill was included in the squad for United’s win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup but did not see a minute of the pitch for the Red Devils and will now ply his trade in the third-tier of English football.
Hugill’s potential
The forward spent the majority of his youth career at his boyhood club Sunderland and was considered one of their most promising youngsters. He produced some strong performances in his early days at United, with a four-goal haul against Liverpool in January 2021 a particular highlight.
During this current campaign, the young forward has seven goals in nine Premier League 2 outings for the academy side and the hope will be that Hugill can kick on even more.
United have had success in recent years loaning out their promising youngsters to EFL sides with the hope they would progress.
Amad Diallo, who was loaned out to Sunderland, performed superbly well for the Black Cats and Hannibal Mejbri, who was loaned out to Birmingham City, also came back a mature player.
The hope with Hugill is that the forward can return in the summer and be a more mature, well-rounded striker and fight for a place in Ten Hag’s plans.
