Manchester United get Victor Lindelof boost, the timing is good for two reasons

Manchester United have welcomed Victor Lindelof back to training amid the defender’s battle with injury.

Victor Lindelof has been a curious absentee from all three of Manchester United’s pre-season matches so far.

The Sweden international captain did not train 24 hours before the Arsenal game, and was not part of the matchday squad when Manchester United faced the Gunners.

Now Victor Lindelof has returned to full training, Manchester United have confirmed.

Victor Lindelof return helps out

Victor Lindelof’s return to action is welcome amid Manchester United now seeing Leny Yoro suffer an injury.

New signing Leny Yoro started against Arsenal but had to be substituted after 35 minutes.

The extent of Yoro’s injury is still being determined, with Manchester United assessing his situation.

In any case, United are likely to tread very carefully, and we do not expect to see Yoro play any of the next two USA tour games.

United need to give minutes to other players, and Victor Lindelof helps plug the gap created by Yoro’s absence.

His availability will also help divide the minutes, ensuring Harry Maguire or Jonny Evans are not overplayed. Lisandro Martinez is still absent, due to the Copa America.

This will be helpful for Erik ten Hag, who will also want to get minutes in for Lindelof, in case he stays.

Lindelof return could speed up exit

Victor Lindelof has just one year remaining on his contract, and it makes sense for the Red Devils to cash in.

Selling a player becomes a lot harder when they are injured, and so with that factored in, Lindelof’s return could be helpful.

Manchester United are still negotiating a deal for Matthijs de Ligt, yet to agree a fee with Bayern Munich.

Landing a small fee for Victor Lindelof could be the difference, while also creating wage space.
