Manchester United fans already felt more positive against Tottenham before a ball was kicked thanks to seeing Raphael Varane in the starting line-up.
Varane lined up as part of a back three, joining Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in defence.
United looked more resolute and Varane played a major part in the improvement.

Varane’s experience helped United look secure and Harry Kane barely got a kick. The England striker failed to register a single shot on target.
Varane made six clearances, more than any other defender, and also made one tackle and one interception.
He also completed 85 per cent of his passes in an all round dominant display.
This was Varane’s first match since suffering a groin injury for France in the UEFA Nations League.
It was only Manchester United’s second clean sheet of the season. The last one also came with Varane in the side, on his debut against Wolves.
Whether United will stick with three at the back, or play just two centre-backs, one thing is crystal clear: Raphael Varane must be a starter.
United just need to keep him fit at all costs. The £34 million fee looks an absolute steal.
