Manchester United fans react to Eric Bailly's performance against Atalanta
Following the injury to Victor Lindelof in training prior to travelling to Italy, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to decide whether to recall Eric Bailly or not against Atalanta.
Luckily for the Norwegian he decided to start the Ivorian in the 2-2 draw versus La Dea, in a match that United’s number three stood out head and shoulders above several of his team mates.
Starting in a back three alongside club captain Harry Maguire and World Cup winner Raphael Varane, Bailly produced one of those performances which makes you wish he could stay fit and get more chances to showcase his vast quality.
After Varane went off with a hamstring injury, Solskjaer brought on Mason Greenwood and moved back to a back four with Bailly playing alongside Maguire.
Playing against an in-form and physically imposing Duvan Zapata, Bailly relished the battle against the Colombian and made a vital goal-saving block in the first half to prevent Gian Piero Gasperini’s side taking a two-goal lead.
The 27-year-old may have been caught napping for Zapata’s goal, but barring that lapse in concentration, Bailly produced a terrific performance, which at times looked like we were playing with a one-man defence.
With Varane out injured and Lindelof nursing a knock, United’s number three deserves a chance to makes his first Premier League appearance of the season against Manchester City on Saturday following a dominant display in Bergamo.
The former Villarreal man made two tackles, four interceptions, one clearance and blocked two shots at the Gewiss Stadium (WhoScored).
Bailly’s performance was praised by supporters with some calling on Solskjaer to give him more chances. Here is a look at some of the comments on social media.
