Manchester United considering two attacking signings before deadline

Manchester United are considering making two incoming attacking transfers before the transfer deadline, report The MEN.

One of these options is Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, with it claimed United held talks with his agent last week.

United’s preference is to sign two new forwards, rather than just one, with the attacking areas of the squad far too light.

The situation is exacerbated by doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. BBC Sport reports he wants to leave the club, but even before this, United needed extra striker cover after Edinson Cavani’s exit.

While there are high hopes for Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford this season, the depth below this is not good enough.

Anthony Elanga is next in line, and despite promise, he has only four competitive club career goals to his name.

Amad and Facundo Pellistri could play a part if they stay, but United can’t depend on either. It’s possible both go out on loan, along with Hannibal, who featured as the club’s back-up striker in Australia, far from his best position.

Tahith Chong, another option, is expected to be loaned or sold, while Alejandro Garnacho shows promise, he is only 17 and didn’t play a competitive minute on pre-season tour.

Extra attacking additions are desperately needed, even if Ronaldo stays, amid an intense fixture list which sees 10 club games taking place in October.

Anthony Martial has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months, and even if he rediscovers his form, he isn’t a player United can rely upon, or ask too much from.

Slovenian prospect Benjamin Sesko is a promising forward, although Salzburg will drive a hard bargain, preferring to sell in 2023.

United are also pursuing a midfielder, and while the Premier League season kicks off in just over a week, the club have a lot of work left to do. The attacking need is serious, with the club an Anthony Martial injury away from a crisis.
