Manchester United interest in signing Benjamin Sesko is ‘concrete’, direct contact with agents, says Romano

Manchester United’s interest in signing Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko is reported to be serious.

The Mail reported earlier this week that the Red Devils were keen on the 19-year-old forward.

Sesko then struck an impressive winner for Red Bull Salzburg against Liverpool, highlighting his potential.

The Athletic reported last night that United have held talks over signing the young striker.

Interest in signing Sesko is ‘concrete’

Salzburg had not planned to sell Sesko this window and have the striker under contract until 2026.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation relating to United and Sesko.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “The interest of Manchester United in Benjamin Sesko is concrete.

“Manchester United had direct contact with his agents, he’s a player appreciated by Manchester United, he’s one of the players they are considering in the least, they had some contacts.

“The problem on Sesko’s side has always been very clear with many clubs approaching Salzburg, not only Manchester United, Newcastle, many others asking for information, and the answer on Salzburg’s side was ‘we want to sell Sesko next summer’ in 2023 not this summer.

“So Manchester United need to make a really important bid if they want Sesko immediately, because the plan was to keep Sesko one more year and sell next summer, so not an easy one, but Sesko is still a player Manchester United are considering and we have to see what happens.”

Sesko’s agent held talks with Salzburg over his client’s future this week, Slovenian outlet Sport Klub reported.

At the start of the transfer window the Austrian club sold Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund for a big fee and planned for Sesko to step into a more prominent role and help offset his departure.

United need extra options in attack, and while Salzburg will drive a hard bargain, it could work out more costly not to sign him.
