Manchester United have been chasing Ajax winger Antony this summer but risk being priced out.

The Mail report Ajax could hike up his price tag above £80 million to attempt to deter United. It would sensibly be time to walk away.

United want to add an extra forward, and have to choose whether that will take the form of a striker or a winger like Antony. This will be steered by what happens over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

Here is a look at five players who United could target instead of Antony to play on the right wing…

Moussa Diaby

Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby is a dangerous player who was one of the Bundesliga’s top attackers last season.

Diaby scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists, which included two goals and two assists in a 4-0 demolition of Real Betis in the Europa League.

The French winger is only 23 and while predominantly a right-winger, he can also play on the left or even fill in up front.

German channel Sport1 claimed back in March that Manchester United were keen on him. He is under contract until 2025.

Michael Olise

Michael Olise was one of the breakout stars of the Premier League season in 2021/22 with an excellent campaign for Crystal Palace.

This will have come as no surprise for those who saw him tear up the Championship with Reading. Still only 20, Olise has a lot of developing to do, but what he has shown so far has been very impressive.

Olise scored twice and provided five assists for Palace, creating goals against Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester City.

The Athletic report Olise has a release clause of £35 million, a fee which could prove to be a bargain, and substantially less than Antony.

Noni Madueke

Noni Madueke is a rising star at PSV Eindhoven and came close to a move to the Bundesliga last summer with Dortmund eyeing him as Jadon Sancho’s replacement.

Madueke quit Tottenham as a teenager to try his luck in the Netherlands and his decision looks to have paid off.

The 20-year-old has scored 18 goals for PSV during his time at the club and provided a further 14 assists.

He is under contract until 2025 and Teamtalk has linked the speedster with moves to Newcastle, Leeds, and even a return to Tottenham.

Hakim Ziyech

One of Manchester United’s alternatives to Antony has to be a short-term move, which would potentially allow a swoop for the Brazilian in a year or two.

A player who can instantly make an impact in Erik ten Hag’s system is one who has done so before at Ajax, Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech is reported to want to leave Chelsea, with The Mail reporting the Blues would be willing to let him leave for just £8.5 million.

The Moroccan would have a point to prove and would add creative depth to a side which did not score enough goals last season.

Marco Asensio

Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio is reported to be available at less than £40 million,  The Mirror reported last month.

The Spain international has scored in a Champions League final and United could probably knock the asking price down, considering he has only one year left on his deal.

Asensio’s 12 goals in all competitions last season was his career best, bettering the 11 he scored in 2017/18.

Still only 26, Asensio has plenty left more to offer and could benefit from new surroundings. He may not have the high-upside of Antony – but he will be far cheaper, and has more experience.
