Manchester United are in the process of deciding which academy stars should spend the rest out of the season out on loan to experience senior football.
The problem Manchester United face is finding the right loan moves for their academy prospects, with the aim of providing a clear plan for a young player’s development.
United’s academy is up there with the very best having produced stars like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo in recent years.
While Garnacho and Mainoo are still at Old Trafford, Scott McTominay is an example of an academy graduate who has fulfilled his potential elsewhere at Napoli, after leaving United last summer.
Alvaro Fernandez is another, although United could exercise their buy-back clause with the Spanish left wing-back impressing at Benfica with stand-out displays in the Champions League this season.
Several youngsters could leave United on loan this month, with the transfer window open until February 3.

Manchester United consider loans for four youngsters
United hope to send some of their talented youngsters out on loan before the transfer deadline.
The first outgoing was arranged last week when United reached an agreement for Ethan Ennis to join Doncaster Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season.
Now, United hope to add to their list of loanees.
A report from the Manchester Evening News names four youngsters who United are considering loan deals for, including Leicester City target Harry Amass.
Harry Amass impressed during the United States pre-season tour, but was overlooked by Erik ten Hag at the start of the season, despite United’s lack of options at left-back.
Dan Gore is another player who could join Ennis by leaving United on loan this month. He picked up a shoulder injury last summer as well as a separate issue in October, which has made it difficult for him to leave an impression on new manager Ruben Amorim.
The midfielder made his United first-team debut in September 2023 but signed for Port Vale on loan last January. Gore was unfortunate as he picked up an injury in his first appearance.
United will also consider loan offers for Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Williams.
Extra competition for Harry Amass
Next season, Amass won’t be the only promising young left wing-back at United.
Paraguayan youngster Diego Leon has completed his medical and is expected to join United at the end of the season after he turns 18.
Amass would benefit from playing senior football for the remainder of the season, instead of being overlooked for the likes of Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia.
It remains to be seen where Amass could end up but there won’t be a shortage of interest in the promising youngster.
