Diego Leon is set to make history at Manchester United.

The 17-year-old is set to become Manchester United’s first signing of 2025 following Dan Ashworth’s departure as sporting director.

It is understood that Jason Wilcox has stepped up to take many of Ashworth’s responsibilities, with recruitment being a priority as Ineos focus on young talent.

Wilcox has wasted no time with United working hard to complete a deal to sign Diego Leon from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno.

United have negotiated a £4.7 million deal with Cerro Porteno and the left wing-back is expected to arrive at the end of the season once he’s turned 18.

The Reds have missed Luke Shaw through injuries for most of the season. It remains to be seen if Ruben Amorim will have a place for the left-back in his long-term plans.

As a result, Diogo Dalot has been tasked with playing on the left flank, but the Portugal international misses the next match against Southampton after receiving two yellow cards in United’s win over Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Diego Leon completes Manchester United medical

Diego Leon travelled to England to carry out transfer formalities at the weekend.

On his travels, Leon posted for pictures with members of the first team stars such as Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez.

According to La Nacion, the left wing-back has passed his medical tests with United.

Leon’s move to United is expected to be announced soon.

The report adds that the young defender will fulfil his ‘dream’ by signing for United.

Leon is set to take part in the South American U20 championship this month in Venezuela.

Diego Leon will make history at Manchester United

United fans have to wait a while until seeing Leon in the first-team, but Amorim’s side is crying out for additions on the left flank.

The youngster will make history when his debut comes.

That is because Leon will become the first Paraguayan to play for United.

Luckily, Leon will come into a dressing room with plenty of South American influence.

Manuel Ugarte arrived in the summer and has quickly become close friends with Martinez, not to forget Garnacho, while Casemiro is likely to leave Old Trafford this year.

Only time will tell if Leon is what Amorim needs at left wing-back.
