Odion Ighalo has been handed Manchester United’s number 25 shirt.
Ighalo signed for United on transfer deadline day on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.
Ighalo arrived in Manchester over the weekend and is due to be officially unveiled by the club.
He was the club’s last ditch solution to sign a striker after missing out on Erling Haaland earlier in the window.
The number 25
The last played to wear the number 25 at United was former club captain Antonio Valencia.
He was released last summer to join LDU Quito in his homeland of Ecuador.
It was briefly worn by Nick Powell, Danny Simpson, and more productively, by another African player to represent United, Quinton Fortune.
Jordi Cruyff and goalkeepers Kevin Pilkington and Gary Walsh also wore the number 25 at United.
Ighalo has a chance to make his stint at United a memorable one. He’s a Red Devils fan, and there are two trophies to compete for, the FA Cup and Europa League.
A winning goal in either could help make the 25 shirt one which is remembered for a long time.
