Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is among the top targets to become Manchester United’s next permanent head coach, but the Austrian coach will need to see off competition from other candidates to land the biggest job in football.
Oliver Glasner is the early frontrunner to replace Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United sacked Amorim on Monday morning, so there has been constant speculation over who could be Amorim’s successor at Old Trafford.
Glasner, 51, has done an impressive job at Palace, where his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Other suggested candidates include Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca.
The Austrian guided Palace to FA Cup success last term, and he is now regarded as one of the top managers in the Premier League.
Palace are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table, but Glasner’s stock will only rise if the Eagles can finish the season strongly. They will need to keep their best players in January, like Marc Guehi, to achieve such a feat.

Dino Toppmoller outperforming Oliver Glasner after Man Utd admission
Back in September, when Amorim was under intense pressure after a slow start to the season, United were linked with an array of head coaches to replace Amorim.
It was suggested that United had options like Glasner and Andoni Iraola on their radar; however, talk of change was quenched by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public backing of Amorim in October.
In an interview with Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller expressed his dream to manage United.
“Thinking about abroad, I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United,” Toppmoller said.
“That would definitely be nice someday, because it’s an extraordinary club.
“When I was a teenager, Manchester United was, along with Real Madrid, the biggest club of all.”
It also turns out that Toppmoller is doing a better job at Frankfurt than Glasner did between 2021 and 2023.
Despite being positioned 7th in the current standings, Frankfurt finished third in the Bundesliga last season.
What is your honest opinion of Jason Wilcox and his role as director of football?
Frankfurt finished 11th and 7th in the Bundesliga under Glasner, but he will be remembered after an unbeaten Europa League campaign in 2021/22.
The German outfit secured Champions League qualification following its triumph in Europe.
