Manchester United allowed Scott McTominay to leave the club over the summer and he is certainly loving life at Napoli.

Manchester United wanted to back Erik ten Hag with new signings over the summer.

United’s outlay totalled around £180million and some players had to go in order to balance the books.

Fans may not have shed tears over the likes of Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Facundo Pellistri moving on.

Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli was a different matter.

United cashed in on McTominay to help with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, with the midfielder’s sale going down as pure profit.

Harry Maguire message to Scott McTominay

McTominay’s departure was an emotional one having spent so many years in the United ranks.

Erik ten Hag didn’t really want to sell McTominay but the Scotland international headed for Italy to take on a new opportunity.

McTominay has racked up four goals and two assists in 16 Serie A games, helping Napoli sit top of the table as things stand.

McTominay’s move has been praised by Gianfranco Zola with Napoli enjoying a strong campaign.

A title charge is on the cards under Antonio Conte and McTominay bagged the third goal in a convincing 3-0 win over Fiorentina on Saturday night.

McTominay took to Instagram to celebrate, simply posting a photo of himself enjoying finding the net again.

United defender Harry Maguire responded with just words, stating ‘at it again’ as McTominay turned in another big display.

Actor Salvatore Esposito branded McTominay ‘gladiator’ whilst many United fans asked him to return to Old Trafford after another goal.

McTominay ‘decline’ addressed

McTominay is having a fine season but some of his recent performances have left fans and pundits a little concerned.

Pundit and former sporting director Fabio Lupo has been quoted by Tuttomercatoweb as saying that McTominay has suffered a ‘decline’ in recent weeks.

Lupo claims that McTominay has encountered a ‘predictable’ drop-off having performed at such a high level earlier in the season.

Lupo isn’t too worried, believing that all players endure dips in form and McTominay will be back to his best soon enough.

“I think it’s normal, given the intensity of his previous performances. The level of his performances has been so high that a decline was predictable. Every player, even the most consistent, goes through moments of decline for different reasons,” said Lupo.

McTominay’s decision to leave United was a difficult one but ending his debut season with a title would really make it all worthwhile.
