Manchester United have five senior players with contracts which expire this year, with Harry Maguire the biggest name.
Despite being stung before, contract renewals are still yet to be dealt with by Manchester United, making it of the utmost importance.
- Amad Diallo
- Christian Eriksen
- Harry Maguire
- Victor Lindelof
- Tom Heaton
The five names lifted include some regulars in Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
Amorim is keen for Amad to get a new deal, while United remains confident that the talks are progressing well.
On the other hand, Eriksen, Lindelof, and Heaton all look likely to leave the club this year. But for Maguire, hope remains that he will get offered a new contract.
However, United are reluctant to do one thing.

Manchester United reluctant to trigger Harry Maguire extension
With Maguire’s contract set to end this year, it seems an agreement is not close.
This is despite Amorim being keen on Maguire extending his stay at the club. United could solve this simply by triggering the extension clause in Maguire’s contract right now.
However, according to The Telegraph, this is something United are currently reluctant to do – smart because Maguire currently earns £190,000-a-week which is completely unreasonable for his role within the squad.
This contract was based on Maguire being a starter and at the time he was seen to be in his prime. However, now at 31 years old, he should realistically be earning less with his role as a squad player.
Due to this, United are instead locked in talks with Maguire over a new deal for the defender, which again is a very smart move from the Red Devils – it makes perfect sense.
Ruben Amorim has a role for Maguire
The career of Maguire at Old Trafford has been far from a simple one, as he struggled to earn the love of the fans.
This went to extreme levels with Maguire among the most abused footballers on social media that has ever existed.
Most would have quit and walked out on the club after such levels of disrespect but Maguire put his head down and stayed.
This has paid off for the Englishman as he came out the other side of this and now gets his flowers from fans regularly.
Amorim sees Maguire as a great fit for the centre centre-back role and is therefore desperate to keep him in the squad at least for now.
Getting Maguire on a contract south of £100,000-a-week would be perfect and probably see him remain at the club for another year or two.
