Manchester United saw the impact Amad Diallo is capable of after the winger swung the derby against City.
After earning an equalising penalty and scoring a dramatic winning goal, Amad Diallo is the man of the moment.
The 22-year-old playmaker has established himself as a key player under Ruben Amorim, playing 90 minutes five times already under his new head coach.
But there is a dilemma Manchester United need to resolve – tying Amad to a new contract.

Amad contract latest
Amad Diallo’s current contract is set to expire in June 2025. Manchester United do have an option to extend it by an extra 12 months.
So while there is no panic about losing Amad on a free next summer, Manchester United clearly need to get the issue resolved, and tie the youngster to a long-term deal.
Ruben Amorim wants Amad’s deal agreed as quickly as possible, and Manchester United are making positive steps to do so.
United are also looking to get Kobbie Mainoo tied to a long-term extension – but right now Amad is the priority.
Insider Graeme Bailey tells United In Focus: “Talks have accelerated in last few weeks – Amorim has made it clear to the player how important he sees him, which was part of the reason things had been delayed due to question marks over Erik ten Hag and the club’s top brass.
“Talks with Mainoo and Amad have been going well, but obviously they would like Amad done before the option kicks in, which they have confirmed will happen.
“Mainoo is on course too, but the need for Amad to be concluded first is clear.”
Bailey adds that Manchester United could tie up a deal before the end of 2024.
Ruben Amorim has made clear Amad is a big part of his future, with Erik ten Hag not convinced previously, and making errors by leaving him out.
What Amad has said about new deal
Amad was seen kissing the Manchester United badge after his goal against City, a sign of his affection for the club.
And he has spoken publicly about his desire to stay, quoted via Goal in pre-season: “I’m very happy here.
“I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone, good energy. Why not stay here all my life?”
You would have thought Manchester United would have had a long-term contract in front of him to sign there and then – but the whole process has taken longer than expected.
He may have had some second thoughts during his limited usage under Erik ten Hag – but he’s clearly a key part of the club’s future under Ruben Amorim, and this deal could be tied up shortly.
