Man Utd starlet Diego Leon breaks silence after Paraguay debut

Three months after arriving at Manchester United, left wing-back Diego Leon earned his first senior cap for Paraguay.

The 18-year-old is seen as a prospect for the future at Manchester United after arriving from Cerro Porteno in the summer.

Still waiting for his first appearance under Ruben Amorim, Diego Leon was one of 18 United players called up for international duty. Leon made his debut against South Korea after coming off the bench in Paraguay’s 2-0 defeat.

It marked a significant milestone in Leon’s career, and it puts him in contention to feature at the World Cup next year.

United are happy with Leon’s progress since joining the club. He’s also got plenty of time on his side to develop his game further.

Although Leon was limited to a short cameo against South Korea, it will still go down as one of the best moments in the early stages of his career.

The sky is the limit for Leon at Old Trafford, and he now has an opportunity to gain from these fantastic experiences.

As a youngster, Leon will eventually try to push his way into the Paraguay line-up, but the next big step will be to make his debut for United.

Leon took to Instagram on Friday night to react to his first senior international cap. He wrote: “Unforgettable Night! Happy to be able to debut with my national team and to be able to fulfil a dream I had since I was a kid.”

All Leon can do now is continue to work hard and look for competitive minutes in United’s youth teams. His time will come, but he must wait patiently as there are several players ahead of him in the pecking order for left wing-back. They include Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui.

The next international break takes place in November.

Leon will be hoping to earn another call-up, which would put him in contention to earn more caps against the USA and Mexico.

The experiences Leon will learn from fellow senior professionals will help shape him for the future.

Amorim hopes the first team can benefit from the trust Paraguay manager Gustavo Alfaro has put in the youngster.
