Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez sent a clear-cut message to Argentina fans after the 2022 World Cup champions completed a 6-0 thumping of Bolivia on Wednesday.

Lisandro Martinez impressed during the summer for Argentina after playing a key role in La Albiceleste’s successful Copa America title defence in the United States.

The Manchester United defender was called up to the national team for the October international break, with Argentina continuing their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Martinez was left on the bench last week for Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela in their World Cup qualifier at the Monumental Stadium of Maturin.

The 26-year-old United star had to settle for a place on the bench again for the Bolivia match before making a cameo appearance for Lionel Scaloni’s men.

Martinez’s message after Argentina win

Lisandro Martinez replaced former Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi late in the second half, with Argentina already leading Bolivia 4-0 at the time.

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi produced a show-stealing performance at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires after he scored a sensational hat-trick for Argentina.

Goals from Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez and Thiago Almada ensured that Scaloni’s men sealed an emphatic win in their World Cup qualifying match.

Argentina are currently top of the table in the South American World Cup qualifying campaign, with La Albiceleste three points clear of second-place Colombia.

Martinez took to Instagram and sent out a heartfelt message to Argentina fans after the crushing win, with the Manchester United star thanking them for their support.

“It’s always nice to play at home and feel the encouragement of our people!” Martinez wrote to his followers.

“See you soon. Let’s go [Argentina].”

Why Martinez didn’t feature vs Venezuela

Martinez and Tottenham star Cristian Romero were widely praised for their defensive partnership for Argentina during the Copa America tournament in the summer.

However, the United centre-back was an unused substitute for the Venezuela clash, with Argentina boss Scaloni making it clear why Martinez had not played.

“[Licha Martinez] is fine. He did not play because we decided that Otamendi should play,” Scaloni said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“We decided based on what we see and believe. Sometimes, we make mistakes. Ota played because we saw him well and we believed that he could play.

“Licha is fine and does not have a problem. He will want to play and we will decide.”
