Man Utd stance on Mason Mount ahead of summer clearout, Ineos have ‘great’ belief over one thing

Since joining Manchester United in 2023, Mason Mount has been a complete disaster for the club.

Eyebrows were raised when John Murtough and Erik ten Hag handed Chelsea £55m for the attacking midfielder some 12 months before he would have been available for free.

This feels like a distant memory in terms of recent Manchester United history, with so much happening since. Now, 24 months on from his arrival and fans are still waiting for Mason Mount to get started at the club.

Mount has faced consistent injury problems at United, which is frustrating as he has barely featured in his two seasons contracted to the club. Mount has only played 33 games for United, which has involved just 1,170 minutes – with his latest return from injury coming against Nottingham Forest.

The Englishman has been out injured since December, which will be an annoyance to Ruben Amorim as he was keen to utilise Mount. Upon arriving at the club, Amorim revealed that he saw Mount as perfect for the system.

Now, the club’s stance on Mount has been revealed.

Manchester United not planning Mason Mount sale

With Mount barely featuring for United, it would be easy to assume he will be expendable this summer. Ineos are preparing a great summer clearout for United, overhauling large numbers of the squad, with Mount a player who, on paper, should be on the chopping block.

However, David Ornstein has now told The Athletic that this is not something he expects.

“I don’t expect Mason Mount to leave”, Ornstein explained during an Ask Ornstein session on Thursday evening.

“Manchester United will be focused on keeping him fit and bringing the best out of him because they think he is a great fit for Ruben Amorim’s setup and style.”

Despite a clear willingness to give Mount another chance, it will likely be forced upon the club with there sure to be limited interest in taking a player who has missed the majority of this season.

If United are lucky and get Mount fit for a sustained period, he could be a key player for Amorim, but unfortunately, that looks like a big ‘if’ right now.

Ruben Amorim is right to be excited by Mason Mount

Mount is back in the fold now, as he will be keen to make his impact felt for the last part of this season. With a difficult period awaiting the club, his talents will be needed.

With the attack faltering, some may suggest Amorim rolls the dice and starts Mount against City, but this could do more harm than good, as rushing him back could simply end in another set-back.

Amorim will have faith in Mount fulfilling potential at United, living up to the number seven shirt on his back and finally make a name for himself at the club.

Fans will take some convincing, and the only way Mount can do this is by staying fit. We really hope he manages, as it certainly feels like the last chance saloon for this to work out.
