Manchester United are moving closer to making a decision on the club’s next interim manager.

You know something has gone horrifically wrong when a club is looking to appoint a second interim manager of the season.

This is where Manchester United are right now, after giving up on the Ruben Amorim project and firing him last week.

Michael Carrick is the new favourite for the Man Utd interim job, are you happy with this?

Darren Fletcher stepped up from the under-18s as interim boss, and has overseen one draw and one defeat.

He is not expected to take charge of the next game, with Ineos keen to appoint a second interim until the end of the season.

WHO is your pick from Carrick, Solskjaer or Van Nistelrooy?🤔

Manager latest

Manchester United have a week until the next fixture and need to fix this situation where the club feels direction-less.

Appointing another interim is no long-term situation but it is better than the current state of play where Darren Fletcher cannot guarantee he will be in charge for more than one game at a time.

United are debating between Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who previously worked together.

Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett reports via X that United ‘will accelerate process in next 24-48hrs with further detailed talks around Carrick and Solskjaer.

“Carrick v impressive in meetings with club bosses, I’m told, but awareness too of how popular Ole was in previous stint as head coach. Key talks and decisions to be made tmrw.”

Solskjaer had been regarded as the early favourite after managing United between 2018 and 2021.

Carrick worked as his assistant before taking over as caretaker manager after Solskjaer was fired, coaching three games, two wins and a draw.

Carrick impressing

While Solskjaer was the early frontrunner, Michael Carrick has been gaining momentum, with United fans supportive of his return.

Talksport also report that a decision could be made on Monday 11, with Carrick impressing during the interview process.

The new manager will be dropped into a difficult scenario with matches against Manchester City and Arsenal.

But it is also a challenge neither Solskjaer or Carrick can resist, despite the worries currently within the fanbase.
