Manchester United fans have labelled Kobbie Mainoo as a “superstar in the making” after his stunning performance against Wigan in the FA Cup on Monday evening.
Erik ten Hag’s men punched their ticket to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium.
The Red Devils will now face Newport County or Eastleigh in the next stage of the competition, with Mainoo playing a starring role in the FA Cup win over Wigan.
Mainoo has been a revelation for United this season after breaking into the first team, with the midfielder often putting in a cool and composed performance.
The 18-year-old United star made an immediate mark on his Premier League debut against Everton last November and Mainoo earned rave reviews for his display.
Mainoo has since featured regularly in the United starting XI and has firmly established himself as a key player in Ten Hag’s first team in the current campaign.

Mainoo impresses against Wigan
Mainoo started in the heart of the United midfield alongside Scott McTominay and offered the Red Devils much-needed stability over the course of the 90 minutes.
The United midfielder’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award from fans, who were simply in awe at his “calming presence” at the DW Stadium.
According to Statman Dave on X, Mainoo won 100 per cent of his dribbles and won every single one of his tackles against Wigan.
The England Under-19s international managed 86 touches and completed 61 out of 68 passes, with Mainoo also pulling off one key pass in the contest.
United fans’ reaction to Mainoo’s performance
Mainoo was one of the main talking points for United fans during the Red Devils’ FA Cup tie against Wigan.
United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, insisted that Mainoo is doing everything that Ten Hag wanted from a Frenkie de Jong-esque player.
“We have two absolute superstars in the making in Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo,” one fan said.
Another added: “He’s exactly the type of player [Ten Hag] wanted when he tried to sign [De Jong], the talent was always there with Kobbie but his potential is frightening. He always looks a second ahead of the opposition!”
A third wrote: “He was outstanding once more. A calming presence at times and wise beyond his years on the pitch.”
While a fourth posted: “Closest thing we have seen to Paul Scholes in many, many years.”
“Saved us 100m. Exceptional again tonight,” somebody else commented.
And a sixth tweeted: “He’s a superstar in the making this lad.”
Another said: “He’s so damn consistent. Scary talent. Hope [Real] Madrid ain’t watching.”
