Kobbie Mainoo was handed his first ever Premier League start as Manchester United returned to action against Everton.
Manchester United’s history has proven that a player’s young age won’t stop them playing for the first team if they are good enough. Erik ten Hag showed that last season, handing Kobbie Mainoo his debut at just 17.
A pre-season injury had delayed his contribution in 2023/24 until now. Even amid the raucous atmosphere at Goodison Park, Ten Hag had no qualms about throwing him into the mix.
Mainoo proved his manager right with an assured display as Manchester United faced Everton. He completed 71 minutes, and was in control throughout the game.

Kobbie Mainoo looked comfortable
Manchester United ensured Kobbie Mainoo got on the ball early with a couple of early touches, where he helped the team retain possession, and this was a theme of his performance.
Mainoo dropped deep to give the defence an easy out-ball, quickly recycling it forward and helping Manchester United move up the pitch.
His biggest contribution came in the 31st minute when he slid in and cleared the ball off the line, when Everton seemed certain to score.
