Man United told what Zinedine Zidane currently thinks about replacing Erik ten Hag as manager

Links between Zinedine Zidane and Manchester United have resurfaced this season amid pressure on Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag finds himself under huge pressure at Old Trafford after leading Manchester United to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

However, the Dutchman narrowly avoided being sacked after back-to-back draws against Porto and Aston Villa.

But Erik ten Hag will remain under intense scrutiny over the next few weeks and a poor result against Brentford on Saturday will refuel the sack rumours.

Zinedine Zidane linked to Man United job

Zinedine Zidane‘s time in management has so far been short but sweet. He won 11 titles at Real Madrid over two separate stints, including three consecutive Champions Leagues.

He left Madrid in 2021 and is yet to return to management despite numerous links to the Manchester United job.

Zidane was linked to United in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired and was said to be interested in the role, but ended up taking a break from management.

Ten Hag was under pressure at the end of last season when Ineos held a season review that included the manager’s position, and Zidane was again linked in April as one of many different replacements.

If Ineos choose to pull the trigger and sack Ten Hag, then Zidane’s name is bound to come up again given he is still without a club.

How Zinedine Zidane feels about managing Man United

If Zidane was available, he would immediately become a popular candidate among United supporters.

His former teammate Emmanuel Petit has now revealed how Zidane feels about the United job and what the club would have to do to appoint him.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Petit said: “Does he want to leave the sunny days of Madrid? His life is in Madrid, he is dedicated to Madrid.

“I’m not sure that he speaks very good English as well. And communication is very important in the dressing room.

“Honestly, I know a little bit [about] Zizou and he needs to get guarantees if he wants to sign over there in Manchester United.

“At the moment, the environment at Manchester United for years has not been good.

“The stability of the bench, the level of the players as well, the expectation of the club is not the same that it used to be. United is still a huge club, but not on the pitch anymore. And Zizou is very conscious and very careful about that, the quality of the players.”

“Could he manage to overturn the situation over there? I think the only answer is yes. But at the moment, when you look at the team, I’m not convinced at all about the level of some players.”
