Ruben Amorim put a smile on the faces of Manchester United fans during his final home game at Sporting Lisbon.
The 39-year-old is only five days away from becoming the head coach of Manchester United on November 11th.
In an ideal world, United chiefs would have loved to appoint Ruben Amorim immediately but a notice period in his Sporting Lisbon contract meant he has stayed in Portugal until the international break.
Amorim took charge of his final Sporting game at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday evening against Manchester City in the Champions League – a side he will soon learn to call rivals.
Sporting won 4-1 on the night with United fans blown away by Viktor Gyokeres‘ hat-trick. It was City’s heaviest Champions League defeat since 2016.

If fans weren’t already excited about Amorim’s arrival, they certainly are now after watching his Sporting side demolish Pep Guardiola.
Supporters tuned in to watch United’s new head coach in action, and Amorim did not disappoint.
His Sporting side went a goal down early on to Phil Foden’s strike, but Gyokeres drew the Portuguese champions level and Amorim inspired his players to an incredible second-half showing.
Amorim used a trick from Sir Alex Ferguson’s playbook to beat City after unleashing Gyokeres in a similar fashion to how Robin van Persie played under the legendary United boss.
It was also interesting to see Amorim’s 3-4-3 in action against a Premier League outfit, and it made it clear that Bruno Fernandes can thrive in Amorim’s system.
Sporting Lisbon aim six-word dig at Noel Gallagher
Amorim got his fairytale farewell from Sporting while drumming up excitement in the United fanbase. Sporting’s victory was made even sweeter by the fact that City fan Noel Gallagher was on commentary duty to watch his team unravel.
After full-time, Sporting took to social media to post a six-word message indirectly aimed at Noel Gallagher.
The Portuguese side posted: “And after all You’re my wonderwall” accompanied with a picture of Sporting players celebrating.
Plenty of United fans have already become big supporters of Sporting over the past few weeks and this will only add to that.
