Man United fans give their verdict as Paul Pogba rumoured to make shock return to Carrington

It has been over two years since Paul Pogba left Manchester United as a free agent… for the second time.

The 31-year-old midfielder broke through at Manchester United but left to join Juventus in 2012 in pursuit of more game time.

Paul Pogba rejoined United for £89m in 2016 under Jose Mourinho in what was a world record transfer fee at the time.

Like most of United’s big-money signings over the last decade – things didn’t exactly go to plan. He did help United lift the Europa League and League Cup during his second spell at the club but things ended sourly after Pogba suffered a major fallout with Mourinho.

Pogba was booed by United fans on his final appearance for the club after he hobbled off the pitch after 10 minutes against Liverpool in a game the Red Devils went on to lose 4-0.

Things have not gone to plan for Paul Pogba since Man United exit

After his exit in 2022, Pogba wanted to show United that they made a mistake by waiting to offer him a new contract.

Just to be clear – a contract was offered and it was worth a staggering £300,000 per week. An offer that Pogba described as “nothing”.

It’s fair to say Pogba failed miserably in his attempts to prove United wrong. Since rejoining Juventus over two years ago, he made 12 appearances for the club, failed to play over 30 minutes in any of his matches and in February Pogba received a four-year ban for doping.

That ban has since been reduced to 18 months but Juventus have terminated Pogba’s contract leaving him as a free agent.

Pogba has been asked if he wants to rejoin United but reports have suggested that Pogba is in advanced talks with Olympique Marseille.

Either way, he still faces a small wait before he can return to competitive action in March. Reports have now suggested that he could continue that wait while training under Ruben Amorim.

Man United fans react as Paul Pogba tipped for Man United return

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Pogba is likely to return to Carrington to train while he waits to find a new club.

After hearing the news, United supporters flocked to social media to give their verdict and it’s fair to say the fanbase is completely split.

Some, it seems, would welcome Pogba back with open arms. One supporter posted: “I’ll still take him for a year. If he improves then we give him 2 more years. He still has it.”

Another added: “Would love a Pogba redemption arc”, while a third wrote: “Let him impress sign a short-term deal til end of season, sign another year or to finish his career. I’m here for it!”

However, others made it very clear they do not want to see Pogba return.

One supporter posted: “Personally I wouldn’t let him train at Carrington. The way he left was embarrassing & insulting to the club. There’s one thing leaving while respecting Utd but the other is mocking what we offer to him & saying ‘is that it'”.

Another wrote: “Keep him away at all costs” and a third posted: “I love Pogba but I really do not want him back… he’s disrespected the club in the past.”
