Man United fans fume at Lisandro Martinez’s social media post days after 3-0 Liverpool defeat

Manchester United fans are not happy with Lisandro Martinez after the defender’s poorly-timed social media post.

The Red Devils were swept aside 3-0 by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon with Erik ten Hag’s side putting on a dire display at Old Trafford.

United have now lost back-to-back games in the Premier League after Brighton scored in injury time to inflict a 2-1 defeat the week prior.

Now heading into the international break, United sit down in 14th in the Premier League table and questions about Ten Hag’s future are already being asked.

After a strong first transfer window under Ineos, the heavy defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool has seriously dampened the mood around the club.

Lisandro Martinez has not helped matters by making a poorly-timed post on social media.

Lisandro Martinez at Man United this season

Martinez made a huge impact at the end of last season on his return from injury, and he began this campaign as one of United’s most important players.

The 26-year-old had a great summer with Argentina, adding a Copa America medal to his collection to sit alongside his World Cup silverware.

Martinez only conceded one goal throughout the entire tournament this summer so he headed back to Carrington full of confidence and momentum.

He has started the season brightly, but like many others in the United squad, Martinez let himself down against Liverpool with a number of sloppy passes and needless tackles.

With fans still yet to recover from the weekend’s disappointing scoreline, Martinez’s latest post has not gone down well with supporters.

Man United fans react to Lisandro Martinez post

With the Premier League put on pause for the international break, Martinez jetted out to meet up with the Argentina squad.

The United centre-back posted his arrival on social media, and chose to include a photo alongside Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

It’s fair to say that United fans weren’t overly pleased with the post, with supporters taking to social media to vent their frustrations.

Via X, formerly known as Twitter, one supporter wrote: “Mate, we just got battered by Liverpool on Sunday. Choose when to put out a pic of you & a Liverpool player wisely. This is not the time Licha.”

Some were more blunt with their message: “Now’s not the time.”

A third supporter wrote: “Plastering it on social media isn’t great though a couple of days after that humiliation in a derby.”

A fourth added: “I get that they’re on international duty, but this isn’t smart”, another fan wrote: “Licha has had a nightmare here”.

“Mates or not, the timing of this is awful” added another supporter.

It’s fair comment. Seeing Martinez posing happily with a Liverpool player right now is not what any fan wants to see.
