Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri impressed while playing for Uruguay against Argentina on Friday morning.
Despite not being a regular right now at Manchester United after the return of Antony, Facundo Pellistri remains crucial for his country.
In a 2-0 win over the World Cup winners, the 21-year-old was really dangerous for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
According to SofaScore, he completed four dribbles in the game, keeping former United target Nicolas Tagliafico on his toes for the entire 88 minutes he played. The performance was one which many United fans would love to see a player put in for our team.
We all know Antony rarely takes on and beats his man, which raises the question of why Pellistri isn’t given a consistent run, given how brilliant he is at this for Uruguay time after time.
After the game, United fans were in agreement and sent a clear message to Erik ten Hag that Pellistri needs a chance to play ahead of current right wing starters.
Pellistri looked great against Argentina
Social media is where fans took to with their views on Pellistri’s performance for Uruguay. Fans had a clear message for Ten Hag.
One United fan wrote a message to Ten Hag on X, saying: “Erik, hope you’re seeing the differences between Antony and Pellistri, give my starboy more playing time.”
This sentiment was then shared by another who wrote that Pellistri is “A lad that needs more opportunity in a Red shirt.”
One fan then made the claim Pellistri is in fact United’s best right sided winger: “He needs to start getting games at united. straightforward, hardworking + more…. by far our best winger on that side.”
After the game it emerged that Pellistri had completed the most dribbles in the game, which promoted this reaction: “Most dribbles in a game against world champions who have THE Lionel Messi playing. Facu is elite.”
Pellistri needs to be given game-time
After breaking into the side initially, Ten Hag turned his back on Pellistri quite abruptly as he failed to feature for a series of games.
That being said, he did feature against Fulham two weeks ago and looked very sharp which should bode well for his minutes going forward.
The struggles at right wing and the fact Antony has clearly dropped in favour should see Pellistri given a fair shot, but sometimes Ten Hag can be illogical in his team selection.
We wouldn’t be surprised if after an impressive international display, Pellistri finds himself starting at Goodison next Sunday.
