Manchester United fans respond

Manchester United supporters had plenty to say to Facundo Pellistri too, congratulating him on a big performance.

One fan wrote: “My Starboy. Keep cooking Pellistri, the right wing is yours.”

Another supportive message said: “That’s the way, keep playing like you mean it,” while another added: “My boy, never doubted you!!”.

More messages included: “Changed the game when you came on well done,” and “Great to see you on today you were brilliant hope to see you more made the difference.”

Further responses added: “Good game lad, you definitely need to be starting more games,” and “We owed the goal and win to your determination.”

Others referred to the weak performance from Antony which saw Pellistri substituted on in the first place.

“Tell Ten Hag to send Antony back to Brazil. RW is for u,” and “You should start ahead of Antony.”

Pellistri has struggled for game time

Facundo Pellistri has made some progress this year, considering that before 2023, he had not yet played a competitive minute for Manchester United.

He has made three starts this year, but in each case it has not led to sustained opportunities. A little consistency would help his development.

What Manchester United fans like about Pellistri is his determination to get down the touchline and put crosses in. This is a trait which Antony does not have, and the differences between the two are noticeable.

Pellistri provided the assist for Bruno Fernandes’ late winner, although his contribution to the move was far more than just his pass for the goal, driving United down the wing, and making an important block, before the final combination.

It would be a popular decision with supporters if Pellistri is in the starting line-up away at Copenhagen this week.

But this is a crucial game, and it would be a big call from Erik ten Hag to select him for it. His weekend performance earned it, so we will see if the manager chooses to reward him.
