England have suffered an injury blow ahead of their World Cup opener and it would have caught Luke Shaw’s attention

The 2026 World Cup is well underway and several of Manchester United’s 14 competing players have already kicked off their tournament campaigns.

However, England’s first match against Croatia will take place on Wednesday evening, and United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford will hope to take part.

According to The Telegraph, Tino Livramento has suffered an injury that could rule him out of the tournament. Thomas Tuchel can name a replacement, and Luke Shaw would have had his fingers crossed.

Luke Shaw overlooked by Thomas Tuchel again

Despite Shaw starting every Premier League match for United in 2025/26, he was snubbed from the England squad by Thomas Tuchel.

However, with Livramento now injured and out of the tournament, a late change can be made.

As per tournament regulations, teams have until 24 hours before their first group match to make changes to their final 26-man squad – but only if there is a significant injury.

With the clock ticking to find a replacement, The Athletic are reporting that it will be Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah who is called up.

Shaw has played a key role in previous England tournaments, including his iconic goal in the 2024 Euros final.

Lewis Hall also snubbed by England

Shaw wasn’t the only promising left-back who has been overlooked… again.

Newcastle United star and United target Lewis Hall is another who was left out of the squad.

United have been showing interest in Lewis Hall after an impressive season at Newcastle, and it was a surprise to see Tuchel snub both Shaw and Hall from the 26-man squad.

Considering Hall has played a part in previous Tuchel England squads, he also would have been hopeful that he might be making his way to the United States.
