Lisandro Martinez hits back at Paul Scholes after ‘not good enough’ criticism, he doesn’t hold back

Paul Scholes has become famed among Manchester United fans for his controversial opinions which few agree with.

The Manchester United legend doesn’t hold back when speaking about the club he played for 716 times.

Tuesday morning saw a fresh episode of The Overlap’s fan debate on YouTube and this – as usual – starred Paul Scholes and Jamie Carragher.

The pair discussed all the biggest talking points around the league, with a heavy focus on the proceedings at Old Trafford.

Scholes argued that Kobbie Mainoo was struggling due to Ruben Amorim’s system.

The system is something Scholes has already expressed frustration over, with his message posted on social media during United’s win over Leicester City.

Lisandro Martinez reacts to Paul Scholes criticism

In this episode of The Overlap, Scholes also brought up the centre-back options United currently have – with a harsh verdict shared on Lisandro Martinez.

Scholes argued that United won’t be able to win the Premier League with the options Amorim currently has – a goal which Diogo Dalot has predicted is possible.

Leny Yoro is one option Scholes backs to be part of the spine of a future league-winning team but is less sure of Matthijs de Ligt.

In the midst of sharing his verdict – Scholes then stated that Martinez isn’t of the right quality.

“Even when he [Martínez] is fit, he’s not good enough to win the Premier League with…”

This criticism from Scholes has not gone down well with the Argentine – who is currently injured with a cruciate ligament tear.

Argentinian outlet TYC Sports posted these quotes on Instagram – with Martinez commenting his response, which has since been deleted.

Martinez wrote, as per Ole: “This jinx guy is really hurting… You put him in Argentina, and he wouldn’t survive.”

Martinez’s best level for Manchester United proves Scholes wrong

Martinez’s reaction certainly isn’t the friendliest response, which appears to suggest Scholes will be ‘persona non grata’ in the Martinez household going forward.

However, the comments themselves are bizarre, with Martinez already proving he is not only United’s best but is good enough to win things with.

In the role Amorim has given Martinez, he has been impeccable with his ball-playing second to none as a central defender.

Although he was also key defensively in the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City a year ago – pocketing Erling Haaland.

Yes, Martinez is far from perfect as his stature leaves much to be desired, but he is far from the biggest problem United have and the club would struggle to find an upgrade on the ball – which is the main demand Amorim had of the Argentine.
