Leny Yoro has revealed that he has “no regrets” about signing for Manchester United and a former Red Devils star played a secret part in his Old Trafford transfer.
The 19-year-old French defender completed a sensational move to the Premier League club back in July after he left Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Manchester United beat the likes of Real Madrid in the race to sign Leny Yoro, with the Red Devils agreeing an initial £52.18m to land the centre-back.
Yoro had impressed during his time at Lille and the Red Devils defender had high expectations placed on his shoulders after his arrival in England.
However, the former Lille star suffered a major setback early in his United career after he sustained an injury during the pre-season tour in the summer.
Yoro was forced off the pitch in the first half of the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and the United star required surgery for a foot injury.
The United summer signing was sidelined for the opening months of the season before making his first appearance in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.
Yoro talks Man Utd transfer and ex-Red Devils man
Erik ten Hag was sacked as Manchester United manager before the Dutchman could use Leny Yoro during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag was dismissed and the United manager sees Yoro as part of his plans at the Premier League club.
Yoro has made five appearances across all competitions for United under Ruben Amorim after his return from injury, including one Premier League start.
Speaking to Le10Sport, the United defender said: “No regrets about joining Manchester United.
“In my head, I’d set my sights on playing abroad because that’s something I’ve always been attracted to, especially the Premier League. It’s every footballer’s dream.”
Yoro admitted that he had spoken with Raphael Varane and the ex-United star “had a lot to say” about him considering his “choice” of signing for the Red Devils.
Raphael Varane left Old Trafford in the summer after his contract expired and the former Real Madrid star signed for Serie A club Como.
However, the 31-year-old French former centre-back announced his shock retirement in September after he suffered a knee injury on his Como debut.
Yoro continued: “I spoke to Varane, who gave me a lot of advice, whether in sport, in life or in this choice. And he had a lot to say.”
Amorim aware of Yoro’s talent
Speaking ahead of United’s defeat to Arsenal earlier this month, Amorim talked up Yoro’s ability and called the summer signing a complete “modern defender.”
“I think he’s a special talent,” he said.
“You have to be careful in this first moment because we didn’t have too many training [sessions] together.”
Amorim added: “He is really fast, a modern defender and that is good when you want to press high and you leave a lot of strikers one against one.
“I think he can manage that. I think he is very good with the ball. I am really excited.
“I have to be careful, we have to manage the loads, the minutes in the beginning but I am really excited to see Leny Yoro playing.”
