An update has emerged surrounding the future of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood following the 22-year-old’s positive start in La Liga.

Mason Greenwood, currently on loan at Getafe, has not featured for Manchester United since January of 2022 and that is not expected to change.

After carrying out an internal investigation into the circumstances leading to his arrest, Manchester United at one stage were leaning towards bringing him back, The Guardian reported.

However, that decision proved to be the wrong choice amid mounting backlash, so the club backtrackeer, per The Athletic and sent Greenwood out on loan for the season.

Greenwood stance

Despite the obvious qualities that the forward brought to United during his three years in the first team, bringing him back into the first team fold would be a terrible decision and according to Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils hierarchy agree with this stance.

“If Manchester United’s position is genuine, Mason Greenwood will never play for the football club again,” Jacobs said when speaking to GiveMeSport when asked about the prospect of Greenwood returning.

“Manchester United do feel a responsibility to resolve Greenwood’s long-term future but, anybody connecting Greenwood back to United has to be aware that the review and the club position now is that he’ll never play for Manchester United again, regardless of football form.”

Greenwood has shone for Getafe and a permanent move to the Spanish side could well be set up for the forward, Sevilla have also been linked with the 22-year-old.

Greenwood’s form

Greenwood was described as being ‘slippery like an eel’ by the Spanish press and he looks to be well on his way to earning a permanent move to Getafe.

The decision made by United to get rid of the forward was certainly a tough one but the right one all things considered amid the backlash it would have brought.

The handling of the Greenwood situation by Richard Arnold, however, looked to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, as it was announced this week that Arnold would be leaving United.
