Manchester United are working on a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo.
Ineos have clarified that they want the best young players at Manchester United, so it’s crucial to tie down your best academy graduates to long-term deals.
United announced a new contract for Amad Diallo on Thursday, just days after his important goal secured a point at Liverpool.
It’s great news because Amad has been one of the silver linings in a difficult season for United. The Reds are positioned 13th in the Premier League and out of the Carabao Cup.
Ruben Amorim will be keen to work with Amad. It bodes well that United’s academy regularly produces talent good enough to compete for places in the first-team.
The United head coach will try to put together a team strong enough to compete for league titles in the future. Amorim will need more than Amad to make United a force in English football once again.

Kobbie Mainoo wants to stay at Manchester United
A lot has been written about Kobbie Mainoo in the past week.
The 19-year-old is already a favourite amongst fans, so it sparked a reaction when reporters suggested United would listen to offers for Mainoo as well as Alejandro Garnacho.
Then Mainoo was linked with a move to Chelsea but that seems like a negotiation ploy.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Mainoo wants to stay at United.
It is understood that contract talks with Mainoo’s entourage have been ongoing since March last year.
Mainoo’s camp believe their client deserves better terms than the club have offered following his rise to prominence as a United first-team star in the last 18 months.
It’s also important to note that Mainoo last signed a contract in February 2023, which expires in 2027, with the option of an additional year.
United sources have told the Manchester Evening News that they want to keep Mainoo.
New deal on the cards for Mainoo despite PSR scaremongering
United could use players who have graduated from the academy for profit, but this should be frowned upon at United, where it is a tradition to nurture young talent.
Selling academy graduates is a method football clubs use to abide by financial fair play rules because no transfer fee was paid for them in the first place.
Scott McTominay leaving United for Napoli in the summer meant pure profit to United because the Scotland international came through the academy.
Mainoo is in the same boat, and it’s scary to think United would sell one of the most promising midfielders in England and beyond, especially when their future belongs to Old Trafford.
It sounds like nothing more than scaremongering before Mainoo eventually signs a new deal.
