Joshua Zirkzee has fallen behind Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order at Manchester United.

Manchester United started their summer window by striking a £36m deal for Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

The Red Devils desperately needed extra depth up front after Anthony Martial’s exit and Ineos moved quickly to snap up Joshua Zirkzee.

The 23-year-old started the season as United’s first-choice striker with Rasmus Hojlund recovering from injury. Zirkzee scored on his United debut but suffered a drastic drop in form.

Of United’s two strikers, Hojlund is Amorim’s first choice after the Dane impressed on several occasions, including in Sunday’s 2-1 derby victory over Manchester City.

Just six months after signing for United, Zirkzee has been linked with an exit, potentially as early as the upcoming January window.

Juventus admire Zirkzee and are open to bringing him back to Italy, while fellow Serie A giants Napoli are also interested in Zirkzee.

There have been glimpses of Zirkzee suiting Amorim’s 3-4-3 system – including his impressive brace in the 4-0 win over Everton, however United could consider a sale.

According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, United will consider selling Zirkzee now that sporting director Dan Ashworth has departed.

The signing of Zirkzee this summer was reportedly driven by Ashworth’s team based on data analytics.

United continue to be linked with strikers such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, and signing a new forward would likely spell the end of Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford.

Now just two weeks away from the start of the January window, Zirkzee and his representatives want to know United’s transfer plans.

According to Tuttosport, Zirkzee and his agent Kia Joorabchian are set to speak to United chiefs to understand the club’s plans and strategies for January.

If United want to sign another striker, Zirkzee will likely leave with Italian clubs queuing up to bring him back to Serie A.
