How Joshua Zirkzee feels about leaving Man United after Ruben Amorim’s arrival

It has been far from a dream start for Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United.

We are a third of the way through the season and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has still only scored once for Manchester United.

The first of five major signings, Zirkzee joined United for £36m from Bologna in the summer with the Red Devils desperately needing support for Rasmus Hojlund up front.

With Hojlund injured for the start of the season, Zirkzee enjoyed a dream start at United by scoring on his debut to steal a late win against Fulham.

However, the 23-year-old has failed to add to that tally and Zirkzee is now facing criticism for his underwhelming impact in England.

Joshua Zirkzee linked with Man United exit in January

Just months into his United career, Zirkzee is already being linked with a United exit. A return to Serie A looks most likely with Juventus showing an interest in the Dutchman.

According to reports, Juventus offered Douglas Luiz as part of a Zirkzee swap deal, but that rumour has since been played down by journalists.

United continue to be linked with other strikers, including Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, but a deal only seems likely if Zirkzee departs.

Before a decision is made, United chiefs want Ruben Amorim to improve Zirkzee, but it is still unclear where he is best suited in his 3-4-3 system.

How Joshua Zirkzee feels about his Man United future under Ruben Amorim

So far under Ruben Amorim, Zirkzee has only played 22 minutes of football after coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.

Owen Hargreaves spotted that Amorim was frustrated with Zirkzee’s positioning after he was brought on in one of the two No.10 positions.

That is understandable given that Amorim’s system is still very new and fresh to the squad, but Zirkzee’s work rate has also been criticised after his display at Portman Road.

According to Caught Offside, United are open to an initial loan deal for Zirkzee as long as it includes an obligation to buy.

However, Zirkzee is not yet ready to give up on his United career as sources say he has “hope” and “belief” that his situation can improve with Amorim now as head coach.

With the start of the January transfer window just weeks away, Zirkzee is running out of time to prove to the fans, Amorim and the club hierarchy that he deserves to stay put at Old Trafford.
