Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has been talking about his hopes for the upcoming season.

Joshua Zirkzee became Manchester United’s first summer signing in 2024, a £36 million addition from Bologna.

Zirkzee explained when he arrived that he was not a traditional centre-forward, and despite a goal on his debut, this quickly became apparent.

Ruben Amorim saw Zirkzee as more of a creative player, where he picked up form in the number 10 role late last season before an injury.

Zirkzee’s role for next season is less clear, with United signing Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and also looking to sign a striker.

Joshua Zirkzee putting Manchester United success first

Joshua Zirkzee has individual aspirations for the upcoming season, but he claims his full focus is on Manchester United’s success.

Speaking to ESPN, he stated that while he knows he needs to score more goals – he can live with another player taking all the glory if the team is a winning one, picking out Bruno Fernandes as an example.

Zirkzee explained: “I’m a different profile but in the end if you’re up top you’re supposed to score goals, I’m not going to take that fact away.

“But the most important thing is that we win so if Bruno scores 60 goals and we win all the games that’s fine.”

The Dutchman explained that he feels he was beginning to hit form last season before his untimely injury.

“I don’t think I’ve shown my best form. I think I was on my way towards it but I think there’s improvement every day for all of us.”

Zirkzee dealing with another injury

There is another problem for Joshua Zirkzee to deal with currently. He is out with an injury, although has travelled on the pre-season tour.

Zirkzee explained: “I’ve got a small injury but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now.

“I’ve got great physios working with me every day. It’s a small injury, not a serious problem.”
