John Obi Mikel has now used Bruno Fernandes to highlight a powerful assessment of his role at Manchester United after the 1-0 Chelsea defeat on Saturday evening.

Bruno Fernandes had a meaningful impact for Michael Carrick’s men on their crucial Premier League test at Stamford Bridge amid the Red Devils’ top-four ambitions.

The 31-year-old Manchester United captain was at the heart of the Red Devils’ first-half opener — and eventual winner — against rivals Chelsea at the weekend.

Fernandes cut the ball back from the right with a low pass and Matheus Cunha smashed home a first-time strike to put Man Utd into the lead against Chelsea.

Bruno Fernandes is now only two Premier League assists away from equalling the record that Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry hold for a single season (set at 20).

The Manchester United skipper chalked up his 18th Premier League assist from 30 matches amid his sensational run of form in the second half of the season.

Speaking after Man Utd’s win over Chelsea, John Obi Mikel was in awe at Fernandes’ stunning assist exploits in the Premier League for the Red Devils this season.

The 38-year-old former Chelsea midfielder added that Fernandes’ ‘influence’ is an example of a positive ‘trickling effect’ on the other Man Utd players around him.

“It shows you that sometimes when you have players like that [Fernandes], when you have your key players, your influential players, your key men, when things are not going right at a football club, it trickles down to the players,” Mikel explained on The Obi One Podcast.

“I’ve said it [before], when things are not going right at the football, at the top, it trickles down.

“It affects the players because number one, uncertainty of what is happening affects the players, not knowing what’s happening, not knowing who’s coming in or who’s going out, not knowing who’s going to be the manager next season, not knowing what the objective of the football club is.”

Bruno Fernandes’ influence on Man Utd shines through after the Chelsea match at Stamford Bridge

Bruno Fernandes talked up the importance of Man Utd’s latest Premier League win after the Red Devils had suffered their 2-1 setback to Leeds United at Old Trafford.

“It’s an amazing feeling for us,” he told TNT Sports, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We had to bounce back – it’s not just about Leeds, there were two games that we didn’t win.

“But we knew we had to make a great performance today because Chelsea are a very good side and it was very important for us because we know our aim is to get in the top four and they are the closest ones to the top five.

“Making distance is important for us and that’s what we need.”

Man Utd are currently third in the Premier League table and the Red Devils’ next outing will be at Old Trafford against Brentford next Monday evening.
