Jamie Carragher shares exciting verdict on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund found the net against Brentford and has now been praised by Jamie Carragher.

The international break is over and Manchester United have to start picking up results.

Erik ten Hag dodged speculation about his future – and a rumoured Ineos meeting – to keep hold of his United job.

The Dutchman needs results though and saw his United side come from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday.

Ethan Pinnock’s first-half opener left United behind at the break before Alejandro Garnacho equalised from Marcus Rashford’s cross.

Rasmus Hojlund then bagged the winner, dinking the ball over Mark Flekken and into the net after being played in on goal.

That was Hojlund’s first Premier League goal of the season but his second in three games across all competitions.

The Dane suffered an injury in pre-season, meaning he missed a large chunk of the preparations as well as the start of the campaign.

Hojlund is just now getting up to speed and should take real confidence from a wonderfully deft finish against Brentford.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has now picked out Hojlund for praise whilst speaking on Sky Sports.

Carragher likes United’s front three of Garnacho, Hojlund and Rashford but admitted being ‘really impressed’ with Hojlund of late.

The former Liverpool man feels that Hojlund is ‘starting to look a player’ and felt that he was simply ‘outstanding’ against Brentford.

“Hojlund, I think he’s starting to look a player, I do,” said Carragher.

“I was really impressed with him a couple of weeks ago away in Porto, he put a real shift in and he was outstanding again at the weekend,” he added.

Hojlund still scratching the surface

United invested big money when signing Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023.

The Dane arrived in a deal worth £64million rising to £72million as United were convinced by Hojlund’s potential.

Hojlund is still only 21 but managed 16 goals across competitions last season and showed his finishing quality against Brentford.

There are issues for Hojlund to work on and he can still show more quality with his finishing in front of goal whilst also becoming more consistent when holding the ball up.

Hojlund is raw but the talent and potential is there; Carragher is seeing it this season and United will hope that Saturday’s goal can set him on a hot streak in the Premier League.
